Plumbing and Electrical 101

Robert rewired the wall for our new washing machine and dryer. We've decided there are way too many different kinds of 3- and 4-prong 220-volt outlets out there.

This was what we had in the wall, but not what we needed. We finally got the washer and dryer working by Sunday morning. There was a little bit of rewiring and re-rewiring necessary. . . .

Here are Robert and Dad after they put the washer and dryer back in the closet, stacked, after refitting the brackets, redoing the floor, and rewiring the circuit. Phew!

Here's our finished laundry set. Evil Greek woman at the laundromat across the street, beware: we will never darken your door again!

Robert also got to have adventures in plumbing on Thursday with Jef, when he cut the waste line in this tangle of pipes, leaving only--ha!--the main water line to complicate our kitchen cabinet installation. There's no main water shutoff, so the cabinet seems to need to be built around the pipes. And if a pipe breaks. . . well, that's Plumbing 202, I think.

Robert also got to rewire the outlet for our range. He took this messy bundle of wires and turned it into a nice 220 outlet for the range and a 110 outlet next to it for the microwave and trash compactor. He got these right the first time.
