Summer 2025 Part 1

Every summer, we love the extra time with the kids--the more relaxed mornings, the fun summer activities around the city, the enrichments of different camps. This year is no different. June and July have been lovely, and we still have another whole month of summer to go.

Instacart orders sometimes go awry--so what do you do with a dozen cracked eggs on the sidewalk? I got my credit, sure, but Marcus thought that throwing eggs high up into the air with Rohan and Kavi (and Erica) would be super fun, and I think everyone else agreed. He did hose the street down afterward.

"This is Us" marked the end of elementary school for the year, and fun for Helen and her friends.

One morning toward the end of school, Marcus ran into David, a friendly guy who helped him when he cut his foot on a shell at Revere Beach a week or so prior, while grabbing a bus at Ruggles.

Junior prom fun--at the Long Wharf Marriott.

Assorted June events--orchestra concerts, raising butterflies, another licensed driver in the house, Father's Day, putting air in all the basketballs/soccer balls/dodgeballs, etc. for the block, sleepovers at friends' houses, and lots of playground time.

The dance recital dress rehearsal was the same day as the prom, so Samantha helped with hair and makeup and costume changes. The recital the next day was fabulous!

I took the girls to a DCR pool on a 92-degree day, only to find it closed "for public safety" because the line to get in stretched down the block in the sun, and two people had to be taken away by ambulance after they collapsed from heat exhaustion. So, clearly instead of working out a system of reservations, or even just giving people a paper number and letting them wait in the shade, closing the entire pool, for everyone, made more sense? We had fun at the adjoining splashpark, but Evie still seemed a little confused about the situation.

Art. Always.

The annual Donna Summer disco party at City Hall plaza, with a roller rink, is always a hit.

Kimball Farms with friends.

Mushroom foraging class in Franklin Park.

End of another year volunteering at YES (slightly belated photo). Next year will be Marcus's fifth year with them.

Fireworks, after watching the NT Live "Importance of Being Earnest" at the Alamo, late in the night on July 3rd.

JP KidsArts camp...with friends.

A visit from Cori!

4th of July party--grilling courtesy of the 16-17 year old crowd, plus water fun, and a 90s Wellesley mini-reunion.

A day in Western Mass--walking around the grounds at Smith College, and going to Six Flags for some rides.

Someone got her Girl Scout Silver Award! Very exciting Little Free Library installation!

Woodworking class to make buttons, then some time spent sewing throw pillows.

Helen spent a week at Wind in the Pines and loved it (again). We ate amazing Vietnamese food in Quincy and appreciated Marcus's driving skills for pick-up day.

New Arboretum entrance grand opening.

Farm chores at Drumlin Farm, followed by "13 Going on 30" at the Prudential movie night, with two sleepy/sleeping girls on the bus.

More of the Ufot Cycle--world premier production of Kufre 'n' Quay by Mfoniso Udofia.

Boat-building camp in the seaport. That is Helen's very own boat!

Critical Mass July ride, with friends.

Circus Smirkus out in Waltham--picnic first, then a reunion of Smirkus Camp friends in the ring afterwards.

Brunch out at Grana downtown for Grandma's 85th birthday.
